The Spaces Between Your Fingers Project
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet a man on a mission...A very interesting mission to link generations and raise awareness of Alzheimer's.
The Spaces Between Your Fingers Project is about collecting advice from strangers on postcards.* Participation is simple: trace your hand on a postcard and write some words of wisdom to a stranger.
This concept rolled around in my mind for a while as I tried to come up with something to share, but my ideas fell short. What kind of guidance could I give someone in our situation?
Finally, I realized that since the disease affects more than just the person with the diagnosis, one traced-hand was not enough . Multiple hands were needed on our postcard, as well as a few extra bits of advice.
So, from a woman and her family dealing with Early-Onset Alzheimer's:
learn patience
love unconditionally
know that change is inevitable
find ways to adapt
cherish old memories
don't be afraid to make new ones
laugh together often, even when the jokes go unspoken
